Materials & Craft
The Organic Collection is Kotavya at its most considered: our designs printed onto premium organic cotton garments, one at a time, with a lighter footprint at every step.
We don't make the garments ourselves. We design the artwork and print it onto blanks from a specialist UK-based eco-clothing maker we've chosen carefully. Here's what goes into every t-shirt, sweatshirt, hoodie and tote in The Organic Collection, from the field to your door.
1. The cotton
Each blank starts as 100% organic cotton, grown in northern India on organic farms that encourage biodiversity. No toxic pesticides, no synthetic fertilisers, no plastic. The farms sit where the monsoon naturally fills the reservoirs, so the crop grows without heavy irrigation. Nothing goes to waste: seeds left over after ginning are pressed to feed cattle.
The cotton is tested for purity and strength before it's spun, which is why it feels soft from the first wear and keeps its shape wash after wash.
2. Spun and sewn with renewable energy
The yarn is spun and knitted in some of the most advanced mills in the world, in southern India, powered by wind energy. The garments are sewn in an SA8000-certified factory, an international standard for fair working conditions and workers' rights.
3. Printed here in the UK
Your piece is printed on demand in the UK, only once you've ordered it, in a solar-powered print facility. Low-waste digital printing uses water-based inks that meet GOTS and Soil Association organic criteria and are never tested on animals. Water-based inks soak into the fibres rather than sitting on top, so the print feels soft and breathes with the fabric.
4. Packed without plastic
Your order arrives in a plastic-free paper mailer that's rip-proof and splash-proof, or a cardboard box sealed with paper tape for bigger orders. All of it can go straight in your recycling.
5. Made to come back
When your piece is finally worn out, scan the code on its care label to send it back free of charge within the UK. The material is reprocessed, respun and made into new clothing, so your old favourite never ends up in landfill.
Looking after your piece
- Wash at 30°C, inside out, with similar colours.
- Skip the tumble dryer; dry flat or on the line to keep the shape.
- Iron inside out and avoid the print.
- Wash less, wear more. A good airing often does the job.
Look for the Organic Collection label on product pages. Our other products are printed on blanks from different established makers, and their materials are listed on each product page.
